Transformation Begins
£56,000 is to be invested to transform the hall into a Community, Heritage and Education Centre
The Village Hall has traditionally been used both by local residents for a variety of activities and events and also been available to a much wider audience for hire. But the hall has had no investment for a long time and was not up to a standard that hirers expected. This became much more evident last year when it was additionally used during the Development Phase of Cresswell Pele Tower Restoration project.
It was also evident that an upgraded village hall was the perfect location for a heritage and education centre which will serve not only the education sector but also the wider community while also complimenting a restored Pele Tower and an enhanced community hub in the stunning setting of Druridge Bay.
Cresswell Village Hall Association therefore applied for funding to the European Agriculture Fund for Rural Development through the LEADER program and has been awarded £55,683, some 80% of the total cost.
The upgrade includes:
- New entrance lobby
- New heating & lighting systems
- New kitchen & toilets
- High performance multimedia system with hearing loop
- WiFi
- Burglar alarm
- New decor
The main works will be undertaken between May & July 2018.
A further grant of £900 has been awarded by the Sir James Knott Trust for new interpretation panels which will give an insight to the heritage of Cresswell & the surrounding area. Councillor Scott Dickinson has also contributed £1,900 from his community fund The Village Hall trustees are extremely grateful to the generosity of the funders without whom this exciting project would not be possible.
